Shadowcat's Stats

These stats are mainly taken from the cards I have managed to collect in the past. Most of the stats that the cards have are unrealistic. I am going to fill in THOSE blanks of unrealism at the beginning of this page...especially weight (men!!! *scathing tone*). With my general knowledge of the character...and some general realism (with a dash of really blind guessing on things like age...considering that the writers have messed that category up so bad in the past). Each set of stats from the cards and other stats I've found (such as Role Playing Games) is done in a separate color, and I'll put the source at the top of the section.

I have found that many of the intellegence ratings seem low on the cards, due to the fact that it has been stated time and again that Kitty is a genius, but that is a personal opinion. Note though... many of these cards are NOT done by the writers of the books, and are in fact done by the card company, so if you notice inconsistancies...welcome to the world many X-fans get fed up with because they can't get a general knowledge of their favorite character straight, due to all of the constant changes.

Also writers tend to also change the age of a character when they feel like it. For instance, Raab (evil man who broke Kitty and Pete up...among other things) considered Kitty to be eighteen, while Chris Claremont (original creator of the character and later desecrator) tends to consider Kitty to be the age of 16 (I'll go with eighteen because it makes her more realistic since time has passed here), so there are inconsistancies all over the place. Well enough of the small talk...time to get down to stats.

Shadowcat's General Stats and Knowledge

Source: Me and my mind for useless facts.

Name: Katherine Pryde

Age: 18

Religion: Jewish

Height: 5'4" (still a little taller then Wolvie)

Weight: 123 lbs (since she is a gymnast and in excellent shape...let us assume she is solid muscle and not a thin X-woman like Betsy 'kay)

Hair color: Dark brown and naturally curly (at least it was until recently. It was always drawn that way, so I'm going to stick with the belief that it is natural)

Eye color: Hazel (used to be brown, but it changed over time to hazel because too many artists liked her eyes blue)

Powers: Ability to "phase" her molecules through a solid object, disruption of electrical systems being a side effect of this, and similarly can "phase" any object or person she is touching. This leaves her invunerable to most forms of attack. She does however still have to breathe. While phasing in mid air this is not a problem, oxygen being at a maximum, but phasing through a mountain for example could kill her due to the lack of air. Being that she has to breathe, she is thus vunerable to a gas attack (but for some odd reason can walk through a fire and phase over lava... go figure...all that smoke and poisionous gases *shrug*)...not being able to dodge or phase through it. She also has been vunerable to mystical attacks in the past. She has also shown the ability to "bond" with people close to her in the past.

Abilities: Kitty is a genius at computers and physics, and used to work on them all the time. She also is trained in many forms of unarmed combat, having been trained by the X-man Wolverine in the past. She uses them well in her work with the European team Excalbiur, beating the heck out of bad guys if she finds the need. Kitty also knows several languages, including Russian, German, and others, due to Professor Xavier teaching them to her telepathically. She may know others due to her immense intelegence and an inate curriousity, but we as of yet do not know what they may be.

History:

Having grown up in Deerfield Illinois, Kitty came from a two parent home. Her parents later got divorced after she joined the X-men and Kitty didn't take it at all well. Possessing of a nasty temper that even today she has to work hard to control, she blamed them for a time, and then finally grew up in a "maturing" experience in Japan with a ninja by the name of Ogun. Kitty had gone by many code names in the past including Sprite and Ariel, but after Japan she chose the new code name Shadowcat, and took on a uniform, that unlike her previous ones (she was a character that went through MANY in the past), lasted up until Excalibur 71 when she got a new uniform. (note: This is a very BRIEF history of the character for a more in depth history look to the History section of the site).

Real Name: Katherine Pryde

Other known aliases: Sprite, Ariel

Place of birth: Deerfield Illinois

Marital status: single

Known Relatives: Carmen (Father, divorced), Theresa (Mother, divorced), Samuel Prydeman (Grandfather, deceased), Chava Rosanoff (Great-Aunt,deceased)

Attitude

Kitty Pryde is a conscientious and enthusiastic young woman, she is generally cheerful, but with the many tragedies she has known since joining the X-men have taken their toll on her high spirits. Extraordinarily bright Kitty is an excellent team player, and is developing leadership skills. However she sometimes dislikes working the long hours needed to hone her skills.

History

Katherine "Kitty" Pryde was a teenager living in Deerfield, Illinois, when she began suffering headaches of steadily increasing frequency, duration and intensity caused by the emergence of her mutant power in puberty.

Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-men, located kitty with his device for finding superhuman mutants, Cerebro. He and three X-men Colossus, Storm, and Wolverine, set out for Deerfield to recruit her. Unknown to Xavier, however, the mercenary, Warhawk had planted a device that enabled his employers in the inner circle of the Hellfire club to monitor Cerebro's activities. The Inner Circle of the Hellfire club thus sent one of it's leaders Emma Frost ,the White Queen to contact the girl too.

Kitty herself was unaware that she was a mutant or that she had a superhuman power until Emma Frost arrived to speak to her parents. While Frost was downstairs, Kitty went to her room upstairs, suffering from her worst headache ever. Lying on her bed , she closed her eyes wishing the headache would stop . When it did, kitty opened her eyes in surprise and found herself lying on the floor of her living room. Without knowing it Kitty had used her Phasing" power for the first time, and had passed through her bed and the floor into the room below.

As Frost left, Xavier and his three X-men arrived and took Kitty to a local malt shop. as Kitty and Storm began their friendship, three Hellfire Club Mercenaries burst into the shop and attacked the X-men. Backing up in surprise Kitty found herself passing through the wall. The white Queen used her telepathic powers to overcome the three X-men, whom the Hellfire Club took into their hovercraft.

Unseen Kitty snooped around the hovercraft before it took off and discovered the X-men. Unwilling to desert them, she hid aboard the craft and followed them to the Frost industries complex to which the White Queen took them. Going to the telephone for help, Kitty was spotted by one of the Hellfire Club mercenaries. but Pryde got away long enough to phone the number.

Two Hellfire Club mercenaries in the car were just about to capture Pryde in Chicago when she was halted by the Jean grey version of the Phoenix, who had just arrived with Cyclops and Nightcrawler in response to kitty's message. Phoenix found and comforted the frightened Kitty and then used her mental powers to calm Carmen Pryde's rage over his daughter's disappearance.

Carmen Pryde, impressed by Xavier, allowed Kitty to become the newest member of the X-men. She originally took the code name Sprite, later changed it to Ariel, but recently settled on the name Shadowcat. Kitty quickly became a valuable member of the X-men So much so that Charles Xavier retained her in the X-men after founding the new team, the New Mutants, most of whom were closer to Kitty's age. Kitty's friendship with Storm has grown although her best friend is illyana Rasputin, the New Mutant called Magik, who is her own age. Kitty had a romance with her fellow X-man Colossus, but although it has come to an end they remain friends. Kitty's constant companion is the small alien dragon-like creature Lockheed, whom she met when the X-men were on another planet.

She was badly injured in battle against the Morlocks, and was cured by Reed Richards and Doctor doom, She is currently a member of Excalibur.

Age: 18 years old

Height: 5'6"

Weight: 110 lbs.

Eye Color: Hazel

Hair Color: Brown

Legal Status: Citizen of the United States with no criminal record

Place of Birth: Deerfield, Illinois

Known Relatives: Carmen (father, divorced), Theresa ("Terri", mother, divorced), Samuel Prydeman (grandfather, deceased), Chava Rosanoff (great-aunt, deceased)

Strength level: Shadowcat possesses the normal human strength of a girl of her age, height, and build who engages in moderate regular exercise.

Known superhuman powers: Shadowcat possesses the ability to pass through solid matter by passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. In this way she and the object through which she is passing can temporarily merge without interacting, and each is unharmed when Shadowcat has finished passing through the object. This process is called "phasing." When Shadowcat is phasing, she is, for all intents ad purposes, intangible. Hence, when attacked, she can shift into a "phasing" state (even if she is not at the time passing through an object) so as to allow oncoming projectiles or energy blasts to pass through her harmlessly. While phasing Shadowcat is still vulnerable to psionic or mystical attack, however.

Shadowcat passes through objects at the same rate of speed at which she is moving before she "enters" it. Since she is unable to breathe while "inside" an object, she can only continuously phase through solid objects (as when she travels underground) as long as she can hold her breath.

Shadowcat can phase through any material object, even living people. When she phases through an object with an electrical system, the process disrupts the system's workings. She has trained herself to go automatically, by reflex, into a phasing state at any indication of danger, such as a loud noise like a gunshot, in order to protect herself.

Using her phasing ability, Shadowcat can walk on air. In fact, she can use her ability to walk on the air from the ground to the upper stories of a building as if she were climbing a staircase.

From the first use of her phasing power, Shadowcat has been able to phase her clothing along with herself. Through practice she has learned to phase other objects along with herself without harm to them, and can now phase a living person as big as her teammate Colossus along with herself. She can also enable someone as big as Colossus to "walk on air" along with her. However, she must maintain physical contact with the person or object she phases along herself for the effect to work with this other person or object.

Special skills: Shadowcat possesses moderate expertise of the martial arts of the Japanese ninja and samurai. Shadowcat is a genius in computer science. She has continued to take dance training under the tutelage of Stevie Hunter, and is highly agile. Shadowcat demonstrated great knowledge of ninja methods of combat when she was mentally possessed by the Ronon Ogun. With the possession over, Shadowcat has forgotten the knowledge of ninja techniques he gave her, but she has retained the knowledge of Oriental methods of combat taught her by Wolverine.

Base of operations: (current) Muir Island *NOTE by SR: She's now in America with the X-men.*off the coast of Scotland, (former) Exalibur's lighthouse off the coast of Britain, Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Salem Center, Westchester County, New York; Moira MacTaggert's Mutant Research Center, Muir Island, Scotland

Group affiliation: (current)new X-Men ,(formerly) Excalibur, (formerly) X-Men, S.H.I.E.L.D.

First appearance: X-MEN (first series) #129

History: Katherine "Kitty" Pryde was a thirteen-and-a-half year old girl living in Deerfield, Illinois who led a normal life but then began suffering headaches of steadily increasing frequency, duration, and intensity. Unknown to her or her parents, the headaches were a result of her mutant power emerging.

Meanwhile, Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men, a team of mutant adventurers whom he trained in the use of their superhuman powers, located Kitty with his device for finding superhuman mutants, Cerebro. He and three of the X-Men, Colossus, Storm, and Wolverine, set out for Deerfield to contact her and possibly recruit her as a member of the X-Men. Unknown to Xavier, the mercenary Warhawk had planted a device that enabled his employers in the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club to monitor Cerebro's activities. The Inner Circle thus also learned about Kitty Pryde, and one of its leaders, Emma Frost, the White Queen, also went to contact her.

Xavier trained superhuman mutants at his so-called School for Gifted Youngsters, whereas Frost was headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy, where she also secretly trained young superhuman mutants such as the Hellions in the use of their powers. Hence, Xavier and Frost would each approach Pryde and her parents as the heads of private schools seeking to recruit her as a talented student. Neither Xavier nor Frost intended to reveal to Kitty's parents that their daughter was a mutant.

Kitty herself was unaware that she was mutant or that she had a superhuman power until the afternoon that Frost arrived to speak to her parents. While Frost was downstairs, Kitty went to her room upstairs, suffering her worst headache ever. Lying on her bed, she closed her eyes, wishing the headache would stop. It did. Kitty opened her eyes, and, to her surprise, found herself lying on the floor of her living room. Without knowing it, Kitty had used her "phasing" power for the first time, and had passed through her bed and the floor into the room below.

As Frost left, Xavier and his three X-Men arrived. The three X-Men took Kitty to a local malt shop, where Kitty and Storm began what evolved into a close friendship. Suddenly three Hellfire Club mercenaries burst into the shop and attacked the X-Men. Surprised and frightened, Kitty moved out of the way and found herself passing through the wall. Landing outside, she fell unconscious since she was still not used to utilizing her power. The White Queen used her telepathic powers to overcome the three X-Men, whom the Hellfire Club took into their hovercraft.

But the brave Kitty had decided to snoop around the hovercraft before it took off, and discovered the X-Men were aboard as prisoners. Unwilling to desert her new friend Storm or the others, she hid aboard the craft and used her new powers to find the captive X-Men in the Frost Industries complex to which the White Queen had taken them. Storm gave Kitty the X-Men's phone number and asked her to summon help. But one of the Hellfire Club mercenaries spotted Pryde, and the White Queen ordered her capture. Using her powers, Pryde got away long enough to phone the number.

Two Hellfire Club mercenaries in a car were just about to capture Pryde in Chicago when they were halted by the Jean Grey version of Phoenix, who had just arrived with her fellow X-Men Cyclops and Nightcrawler in response to Kitty's message. Phoenix found and comforted the frightened Kitty, who told her story to her and her X-Men colleagues. Pryde then helped the X-Men and their ally, the Dazzler, in rescuing their captive colleagues.

Phoenix used her mental powers to calm Carmen Pryde's rage over his daughter's disappearance. Mr. and Mrs. Pryde allowed Kitty to join Xavier's school, and soon afterwards she became the newest member of the X-Men. She originally took the code name Sprite, but later changed it to Ariel. Kitty quickly became a valuable member of the X-Men, so much so that Xavier retained her in the X-Men even after founding a new team, the New Mutants, most of whose members were closer to Kitty in age than the other X-Men were.

Kitty's friendship with Storm has continued, but her best friend was Illyana Rasputin, the New Mutant called Magik. Kitty was deeply affected by Illyana's recent death from the Legacy Virus. Kitty had a romance with her fellow X-Man Colossus, and although it proved to be short-lived, they remain friends today. Kitty's constant companion is the small, alien, dragon-like creature Lockheed, whom she met when the X-Men were on another planet.

Over time Kitty also grew close to the X-Man Wolverine, who became a mentor to her. While in Japan, Kitty was captured and put under the mental control of Ogun, the martial arts master who had once been Wolverine's teacher but had since become his enemy. Wolverine undertook a crash program to teach Kitty to become skillful enough in the Japanese martial arts to contend against Ogun. At the end of her training Kitty assumed the new code name Shadowcat, which she still uses today.

During the massacre of the mutant Morlocks by the Marauders, the Marauder called Harpoon injured Shadowcat with his energy spear. It also adversely affected her powers so that she could no longer regain her solidity. She was cured by the combined efforts of Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four's Mister Fantastic.

Subsequently, Shadowcat became a founding member of the new British-based team of adventurers Excalibur. She eventually became romantically involved with her teammate Peter Wisdom.

Recently, G. W. Bridge, the acting commander of the international law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D., recruited Kitty Pryde to become a temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Bridge explained that the computer system of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s flying headquarters, the helicarrier, was failing to recognize any user but her. Pryde soon learned that this was because the spirit of the late Ogun had taken control of the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier's computer system. Pryde succeeded in defeating Ogun and, with Wolverine's aid, S.H.I.E.L.D. regained control of the helicarrier computers.

Shadowcat returned to Excalibur, where she has continued to be a valued member of the team.

Shadowcat has now returned to the X-Men with Excalibur team-mates Nightcrawler and Colossus.

KNOWN POWERS:

Phasing: Kitty can de-synchronize the molecules of her body at a whim, allowing her to pass throgh solid objects unharmed (except for force fields, which she must make a successful Endurance FEAT roll to penetrate). this allows her to not only walk through floors, walls and ceilings, but to walk on or climb upon air itself. Her limit on this phasing *NOTE from SR: Through solid objects only in real life* is the length of time she can hold her breath (five rounds normally, each additional round requires an Endurance FEAT roll).

When phasing, Shadowcat cannot be harmed by physical attacks, most mental attacks, or most energy attacks, but she can be stopped by force fields and harmed by attacks that are also out-of-phase or multi-dimensional (many magical powers are multi-dimensional). Kitty's phasing also disrupts electromagnetic and electrical waves and systems of the following effects: Unprotected electrical systems are automatically scrambled and short-circuited (until completely repaired or replaced); those electronic systems that are portected with special over-load breakers or wiring (such as some computers or battle suits listed as having an Endurance rank) must make an Endurance FEAT roll or suffer 30 points of damage and the equivalent of Stunning for 1 -10 rounds; computer software is completely erased when she phases through it.

Kitty has been working on phasing other people or items with her. She can phased up to five other people (by holding hands in a chain) who aer willing to phase by making a yellow FEAT roll for each character. Once the roll has succeeded she need not check again unles she breaks contact with them. If the roll fails it means that character (and whoever might be behind that character in a chain) has not phased. She may retry an unsuccessful multiple phase again the following round. Kitty can automatically phase an object up to 20 pounds, anything weighing more requires an Endurance FEAT roll, with her maximum weight being no more than 600 pounds.

Special Tricks: Against robots, character in battle suits or with high-tech gear, etc., she usually hides or phases out of the way until she has a chance to walk through and disrupt them. She will either distract a living opponent until one of the other X-men can put him out of commission or will phase up underneath the opponent, grab him (requiring an Agility FEAT roll on the Catching column), then phase through the floor or wall with him, leaving him disoriented and isolated.

Astral Sight: Kitty can automatically see characters in their astral forms, if in the same adjacent area.

TALENTS: Kitty's Reason is Incredible when dealing with all kinds of electronic devices and computer hardware. She knows martial arts types C and E. Through Professor X's mind-teaching she speaks Russian as a second language.

CONTACTS: Kitty is close to Stevie Hunter (see VIP section), her roomate Magik, Wolverine, Storm, and is friends with the Morlock Caliban (who is in love with her). At one time she felt that she was in love with Colossus, but she now spends more time with Doug Ramsey (Cypher of the New Mutants) than any other boys. Her all-time favorite creature in the whole world is Lockheed, her pet dragon.

Running Shadowcat: Shadowcat is very much like her namesake: fleeting, hard to hold on to, surprising, and spritely. In fact her first two codenames, Sprite and Ariel, indicate her light-hearted attitude and airy nature. Kitty is the youngest member of the X-men, but has worked hard for her place on the team. She has triumphed over many personal troubles in her young life (her parents' divorce, her breakup with Colossus, and her exceptionally high intelligence which has seperated her from her peers) and has one of the most stable personalities of all of the X-men. The only minor problem she cannot easily correct is her nearsightedness.

POWERS:

Phasing: Ariel can de-synchronize the molecules in her body, allowing her to pass unharmed through solid structures. She hasn't found a limit to how long she can stay out of phase, but she can stay inside a solid object only as long as she can hold her breath. Ariel cannot be harmed while out of phase, but seh is affected by force fields. Her phasing also scrambles electrical equipment. Most equipment can make an Endurance FEAT roll to avoid being scrambled, but equipment without an Endurance rank is scrambled automatically. Mechanical beings take 30 points of damage from this scrambling, while battle suits and most machines are incapacitated for 10 rounds.

DESCRIPTION

When Katherine "Kitty" Pryde was 13 years old she discovered she could "phase" through solid objects, like walls and floors. The intelligent mutant from the affluent suburbs of Chicago attracted the attention of Charles Xavier and Emma Frost, each of whom wanted Kitty to attend their schools for mutants. When Kitty chose Xavier, Frost kidnapped the X-men. Kitty helped them escape, and soon she was an X-man herself. It was hard enough accepting that she was a mutant, but now she found herself in the company of demons and freaks. Before long, though, they became her friends, especially Wolverine, Magik and Colossus, who was Kitty's first love. Kitty left the X-men to help found Excalibur. She later returned to the X-men, but after Colossus died she left again to continue her education at the University of Chicago.

Shadowcat is an expert with computers, which is ironic since phasing disrupts any electrical equipment she passes through. She was trained in combat by Wolverine. She's got a pet dragon, Lockheed, whom she befriended on a mission in outer space.

Since becoming an X-man, Kitty has been called Sprite, Ariel and Shadowcat. Like her name, Kitty has changed quite a bit as she's grown older. She's seen friends and lovers die in the cause of peace, and she's no longer the naive little girl who first came to Xavier's mansion. While she still fervently believes in the dream of peaceful coexistance, the mature Katherine Pryde knows she must find her own path to that goal.
