Shadowcat
Katherine Leeann Pryde is otherwise known as Excalibur's and the X-men's Shadowcat!

Katherine Pryde a.k.a Shadowcat was originally created by writer Chris Claremont at the onset of the Dark Phoenix Saga in Marvel comics. Kitty is a mutant...a genetically superior being due to a quirk in her genetics known as the "X-factor". Kitty has the mutant ability to make herself intangible by "phasing" her molecules through another object. This ability works on things she is touching as well. Unfourtunately it also has a horrible tendency to mess up any and all electronic systems she comes in contact with.

Kitty's age is often under debate due to the many writers that have written her in the past, one of which made it possible for the character to have two 14 year birthdays (one in X-men after returning from space and one in Obnoxio the Clown vs. the X-men just for those who are curious)!?! She is now considered to be eighteen years of age at the time of this writing however (considered that by many past writers and a lot of fans alike, she's not going to remain 16 forever no matter WHAT Claremont likes to say), and has been known to show maturity beyond those years since her introduction in the X-men. Kitty has shown a natural talent and is considered a genius in many areas: among them being computers and physics. As a matter of fact, Kitty at first thought Prof. Charles Xavier was recruiting her for his school due to her knack for Physics. Kitty was often seen working with computers, and wrote many programs with Douglas Ramsey, former New Mutant's member Cypher, who died in the line of duty defending his team-mate Rahne Sinclair.

An odd facet to Kitty's personality, or perhaps her powers (it has not been explored deeply in the X-books) is the ability to bond deeply with those she feels very close to. In the past she felt when her best friend Magik was in trouble. She also was lucky enough to make a best friend that has stuck with her through thick and thin, the alien dragon Lockheed, who followed her home after the X-men destroyed the evil Brood homeworld, dubbed "Sleazeworld" by Katherine and the X-men, in the Brood Saga (also written by Chris Claremont). Kitty still considers the X-men her family and holds Storm and Wolverine and memories of Colossus close to her heart always.
