I have commented a lot in this e-zine about the "T.T.N.T." principle, as it applies to current, commercially available foodstuffs. Variations here, offshoots there. It seems there is always something in the supermarkets that catches my eyes or my ire. You must experience the same thing. Now it is your turn to let your feelings be known...

The time has come to celebrate the best and the worst of the food industry...namely the 2001 TtiNTie Awards!

The TtiNTie Awards will go to the best, and worst, examples of the "T.T.N.T.", or "Two Things Nailed Together" Principle. This is the principle at play any time you see a new product consisting of an existing product in a different form (3-D Doritos, Oreo Cereal, etc), or some product with two or more unlikely ingredients put together (like the new Ritz Sandwich S'mores variety, or the old Pine-Orange-Banana juice variants.),or just a novel - perhaps even weird - new product, such as Fruit-By-The-Foot and Toaster Pizza. I named this principle based on a line from a 1972 George Carlin comedy bit called "Values", in which he states that, "If you nail together two things that have never been nailed together before, some schmuck will buy it from you!"

If you have seen (or tried) something in the past year that would qualify as an example of the "T.T.N.T." Principle, let me know. You can nominate these products for TTiNTie Awards by
e-mailing me at eogourmet@email.com. The guidelines are as follows...

    1. It must be a fairly new product (introduced within the last year)
    2. It must represent one of the following:
-A variation of a current product (NesQuik Cereal,
                                                 Chip's Ahoy! Toaster Pastries, etc)
-A combination of odd ingredients that don't seem to belong together
-A product that is unusual, odd, perhaps even weird

Here are the Categories for The 2001 TTiNTie Awards:
-Best and Worst Offshoot Of An Existing Product
-Best and Worst New Product Ideas
-Most Inspired and Ill-Advised New Product
-And a generic "Catch-All" category to cover everything

By the way, not only will this be a fun EOG endeavor, but it may be a winning proposition to you as well. Product nomination entries will be drawn at random, and winners will receive EOG TTiNTie Awards T-shirts and other EOG fun stuff.

Send your nominations to me at
eogourmet@email.com . Deadline for entries is November 25th.

Can't wait to hear from you!
