| Product: Famous Amos Big Chunk Cookies Manufacturer: Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookie Company, L.L.C., Battle Creek, MI For years Wally Amos has been one of the homegrown American success stories of the cookie industry. Long before Mrs. Fields, Wally has been whipping up this delightful taste treats for our delight and consumption. And that time, the cornerstone of the company has been the standard Famous Amos cookies ... mostly of a chocolate chip or a tollhouse variety, 2 to 2 1/2 inches in diameter, with a consistency somewhere in between Nabisco's chips ahoy and Keebler's pecan Sandies. They come in reclosable bags, and are damn good. Now Famous Amos comes our way with a new product, a product called Famous Amos Big Chunk cookies. What sets these apart from the other Famous Amos cookies? Not at a lot other than the fact that they happen to be bigger, and have some different ingredients tossed into the mix. am I complaining? Hell, no! In fact, some of the new ingredient combinations make for a really nice offshoot product. I shall start out with the most basic of these newer cookies, Chocolate Chunk. What is a chocolate chunk? It's just a bigger chocolate chip. Once again, am I complaining? Once again, hell, no! I am always a sucker for a good chocolate chip cookie, and as far as the chocolate chip entries into the heart cookies genre, you don't get much better than this cookie. Which brings us to flavor #2, Milk Chocolate Chunk And Macadamia. As of late, the macadamia nut has been a very popular ingredient in high-end cookies. From the fresh-baked white chocolate macadamia nut cookies offered at Subway to the convenience-store a-la-carte acrylic-case-based cookies for makers such as Otis Spunkmeyer, the macadamia nut is now to cookies what the hazelnut has become to coffee flavoring. Combine these macadamia nuts with Wally's big chocolate chunks, toss them in with the dough used to make these magical cookies, and all you need is a giant glass of milk to experience high-calorie nirvana And now all the flavor that I am most fond of (probably because it includes my all-time favorite nut) is called Milk Chocolate Chunk And Cashew. As far as hard-style cookies go, this is about as perfect as it gets. End of discussion. Period. I've been a lifelong fan of Famous Amos cookies. Now he makes them bigger and includes cashews. Ratings, everyone? You got it, four chips up |
